success isn't
"IT"
Elvis. Marilyn Monroe. Kurt Cobain . . .
We've heard the same story so many times, it's almost cliche:
An idealistic young person has a dream, works hard, and achieves "success" (they "live their dreams") as it's commonly defined: money, power, fame, status, sex, a family, being widely loved and adored, having respect from peers, cool clothes . . .
- and still, when push comes to shove, they're not "happy." From Elvis to Robert Downey Jr, Marilyn Monroe to Kurt Cobain, and on and on . . .
(of course, we hear the stories a million times . . . but that doesn't stop us from chasing the same wealth/status/respect/etc etc over and over again anyways - but that's another story . . .)
Which brings up the question . . . what is worth achieving? Is it a matter of redefining "success", redefining the "American Dream"? Isn't "IT" all about "living your dreams"?
So while there may be absolutely nothing wrong with wealth and fame and so on . . .
if that, in itself, isn't "IT",
then . . .
what is?
