Essentially, the way we see "workaholism" is this:
"work" is essentially your chosen compensation.
Meaning, a person becomes a workoholic because they are failing
at certain other, more important things in life.
And . . . well, instead of facing those other things, which
are often painful and difficult to face up to . . . the choice
instead is to stick with something that one is good at: work.
In this way, a person can at least appear successful, to others
and to themselves, even if it's being successful that things
that are less important in life.
The "solution," therefore, to "workaholism"
as a kind of addiction
is simply dropping the compensation and facing up to the other,
more important stuff that's being avoided (more often than
not, this means certain relationships . . . and more often
than not, either directly or indirectly, this means sex.).
Easier said than done, yes - but hopefully there might be
some helpful tips here.
