Relationships Aren't "IT"
- Or not automatically, at least.
Many of us have been raised on notions that our relationships are
supposed to be something out of Titanic or Casablanca
- and if they aren't, we don't want to "settle" for anything
less.
In other words, we have incredibly unrealistic expectations about
what relationships are supposed to be (perfect) and how they are
supposed to work (easily).
Yet expecting a relationship to be "IT" becomes a crushing
disappointment when you inevitably discover that this particular
relationship isn't "IT": the morning after you
walk off into the sunset, when the honeymoon has ended and you're
back to the day-to-day life you had before; even the best relationships
take work; and you discover that the other person is not a god ot
goddess, but a flesh-and-blood human , just like yourself.
This disappointment can be prevented by not expecting to get "IT"
from another person, but by the search for "IT" in the
right places . . .
