Phase 4: "Reluctant Religious"

Part of a sturdy life philosophy involves "ultimate matters."

We all have to give our lives to something.

In that sense, dealing with this topic is ultimately unavoidable.

(Even efforts to avoid commitments means becoming committed to the idea of avoiding commitments.)

That "something" - whether it's conscious and deliberate or unconscious and accidental - becomes, in a practical sense, our answer to "ultimate concerns."

Call it "spirituality" or "religion."

But when it comes to these topics, some find themselves...reluctant.

If it were possible to just avoid the entire topic, they might prefer that.

They don't necessarily see spirituality or religion as very attractive when it comes to everyday life.

It might be because they've never encountered a spiritual approach that really makes sense.

Maybe they imagine it conflicts with science.

It might be due to their experience of "religious" people who have behaved in ways that are less than impressive.

Maybe they just think it seems uncool.

And so on. There are plenty of possible reasons for reluctance.

Of course, this doesn't apply to everyone.

Some have an approach to religion or spirituality that "works" for them.

They're practicing a tradition they're happy with, for example - one that makes sense to them, and seems to bring them closer to clarity, sanity, and reality.

If this sounds like you, you can skip this section and move on to the next Phase.

But the rest of us are, at least to a degree, are "seekers."

"Seekers" are looking for something more.

"Seek and ye shall find" seems like good advice, because those who don't seek don't tend to find.

Discoveries typically are made by those who are looking for them. As the saying goes, "not all who wander are lost."

But seeking can also be hazardous.

The articles in this section are geared to make it less hazardous.

And more effective.

Objective: To navigate the modern spiritual scene in pursuit of Truth.
